In the winter of 1973, I was fishing with two other individuals at Flaming George, located in Northern Utah. While fishing 15 miles from camp, we were overtaken by a rain storm that quickly changed to an ice storm. Within 30 minutes we were covered in ice. Upon returning to shore, it took great deal of effort for us to remove our bodies from the boat. Bordering on hypothermia, we struggled to find any wood we could to start a fire. As with all our equipment, all the wood we could find was covered in 1/2 an inch of ice. We worked to uncover a number of sticks, in hopes of starting a fire and getting warm. After removing the ice from these wet logs, we put the little bit of Fire Ribbon we had on them. With this Fire Ribbon, we were able to start a fire. We then spent 90 minutes thawing out by the fire. Had it not been for the Fire Ribbon, we may not have survived this terrible ordeal.i
